The International Architecture Workshop 2023 was held in Pecatu, Bali, and Bandung as a collaboration between Gunadarma University, Parahyangan Catholic University, and the University of Ulsan. With the theme “Empowering Local Community for Sustainable Future”, the workshop explored the intersection of architecture, community, and sustainability through cross-cultural academic exchange.

It is the 5th Architectural Workshop between Gunadarma University, the University of Ulsan, and Parahyangan Catholic University. This year’s workshop’s main theme is Empowering Local Community for Sustainable Future. The workshop was held by Parahyangan Catholic University in Bali and Bandung. The teams were mixed from all three universities and split into five
groups with different building functions, ensuring that the designs were well connected to each other. The outcome provided various solutions for the locality in Pecatu, Bali.

The workshop is centered on the exploration of Subak, Bali’s traditional irrigation system, as both an ecological and cultural framework. Subak reflects the harmonious relationship between humans, nature, and spirituality, offering a valuable perspective for reinterpreting sustainable architectural practices. By adopting this philosophy, the workshop emphasizes the importance of empowering local communities, preserving cultural identity, and addressing global environmental challenges.
